Get Involved with the 2020 Election

With the Massachusetts primary season now over, it is time to dive into getting Joe Biden and Kamala Harris elected on November 3rd! Please see below for ways to get involved with the campaign.

Join the Cape Ann Democratic Coordinated Campaign Weekly Virtual Phone Banks

Phone banking is the number one priority of the Biden-Harris Campaign. The Cape Ann Democratic Coordinated Campaign is working with the Biden-Harris Massachusetts campaign team to host weekly virtual phone banks to swing state voters, every Wednesday, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, now through election day. All are welcome! Instruction and support is provided each week. All you need is a dependable internet connection, computer, and a phone to participate. Virtual phone banking is not only socially distancing friendly, it’s the most effective method at this time for critically needed voter to voter contact in swing states! Join local Cape Ann Dems and sign up here!

Write Post Cards to Swing State Voters

Swing Left North Shore/Cape Ann has been engaged in postcard/letter writing to swing state voters. Volunteers are responsible to cover cost of cards and postage. Pickups are available in Gloucester and surrounding North Shore towns. To RSVP and get more information, contact Alix Smullin from Swing Left North Shore/Cape Ann directly at alix.smullin@gmail.com.

Want A Lawn Sign?

At this time, the Biden-Harris campaign is directing people to purchase lawn signs and other Biden-Harris 2020 items online. Each purchase is a contribution to Biden Victory Fund.

Message from the Chair, September 2020

We have come to the end of what turned out to be an exceptionally unique primary season. We were blessed by the caliber of candidates who put themselves forth for elected office this cycle.

Though they did not prevail, Jamie Belsito and Angus McQuilken ran campaigns with solid fountations and true convictions. It would be hard to find two more passionate, knowledgeable, and well-prepared individuals to run for any office. Congratulations to Seth Moulton, who will undoubtedly take the experiences of this primary to heart as he heads into the general election and back to Capitol Hill. Based on previous history, I have every confidence in him that he will.

The same can also be said of our race for U.S. Senate. Though Joe Kennedy III came up short in this primary, this does not diminish his accomplishments, skill, or his bona fides as a progressive leader. While he will not be headed to either chamber of Congress next year, he will undoubtedly continue fighting for our shared Democratic ideals, whatever his next destination may be. We expect to see him again soon. Congratulation to Ed Markey, whose election is paramount as Democrats across the country aim to retake the Senate.

Now we find ourselves locked at last in the final fifty-something days of this election. We face a man who has referred to our servicemen and women as “losers” and a party that defends him for doing so. A man who last week defended a vigilante gunman who killed two people and seriously wounded a third – all the while yelling about “law and order.” Mr. President, teenage vigilantes crossing state lines with AR-15s to shoot unarmed protesters is the very opposite of “law and order.” It is a sad state of affairs when a president and his followers require this to be spelled out for them. None of his local supporters – or the local GOP candidates for Congress or U.S. Senate – have publicly shamed him for these remarks. How profoundly morally bankrupt must he act before they do?

If you haven’t yet gotten involved, now is the time. While the polls show that Joe Biden is ahead in almost every swing state, we still need to do the work of getting out the vote. We will not be able to go to these states to canvass, rally, and physically drive folks to the polls as we usually might. Instead, we need to be on the phones, helping folks to navigate the new and sometimes complex voting processes of the COVID-19 era. The time is now to step up and help Joe Biden and Kamala Harris win the White House, and save our republic from the disease that is Donald Trump and his administration.

You can find more information about how to get involved here. Please sign up today!

Democratically yours,
Matthew C. Murray

Vote by Mail in 2020!

Everyone in Massachusetts can vote by mail in 2020, no absentee ballot required! Keep yourself and your loved ones safe while doing your civic duty by voting by mail.

You should have already received a ballot application in the mail. If you have not, click here to download one. Applications should be turned int by August 26 in order to receive a primary ballot and by October 28 in order to receive a general election ballot. Simply fill out the ballot application, indicating which ballots you would like to receive, and send the pre-addressed card to your local clerk. No postage required!

When you receive your ballot, fill it out and return it as soon as possible. Your ballot will come with a pre-stamped and pre-addressed envelope. We have already seen that Trump feels threatened by the free and fair election that vote by mail will give us, and he has started to move his authoritarian machinery to slow the delivery of mail.

Primary ballots must reach your local election office by 8 PM on September 1st. General election ballots must be postmarked no later than November 3rd and must reach your local election office no later than November 6th.

If you decide you don’t want to vote by mail after applying for a ballot, you can still vote in person! Vote early, vote by mail, vote in person… just whatever you do, don’t forget to VOTE!

To learn more about voting by mail, visit the Secretary of State’s website.
